Can I change volunteering roles after starting?

Yes, absolutely.

Many volunteers discover new interests during their time with LHA and may wish to explore a different volunteering role or experience. In other cases, a volunteer's personal circumstances, studies, work commitments, or availability may change over time, making a different role or duty pattern a better fit. Where opportunities are available, we are happy to support volunteers who would like to develop new skills, explore different areas of hostel life, or find a role that better suits their circumstances.

If the role you are interested in is within your current hostel, this is often the simplest option. Your House Manager will usually be aware of upcoming vacancies or volunteers planning to leave their roles, and existing volunteers are often among the first people to hear about opportunities becoming available within their hostel community.

If you are interested in moving to a different hostel, whether to experience a different community, for location convenience, or because your preferred role is not available at your current property, this may also be possible.

In these situations, you would normally be asked to submit a new application through our website. In line with our volunteering process, your application would then be added to our active waiting list. When a suitable opportunity becomes available, either the Volunteer Team or the relevant hostel will be in touch to discuss the role and next steps.

Please note that all role changes and hostel transfers remain subject to availability. We encourage volunteers to remain flexible, as the timing of role changes will depend on vacancies becoming available and the needs of individual hostels. We also encourage volunteers to speak with their House Manager or the Volunteer Team if they are considering a change, as we are always happy to discuss the options available.
