Can I work for LHA as a paid employee and volunteer at the same time?

Unfortunately, not.

Volunteer status and employee status are separate arrangements, and it is not possible to hold both roles with LHA at the same time. If a volunteer is successfully appointed to a paid position within the organisation, their volunteering arrangement would come to an end when they begin employment.

This is a question we receive quite frequently, particularly from students volunteers who are eligible to work part-time and would like to remain part of the volunteering scheme while also taking on paid work with LHA. While we appreciate the enthusiasm behind these requests, maintaining a clear distinction between volunteering and employment is important.

Volunteering is intended to be a freely given contribution of time and skills in support of LHA's charitable mission. Combining employee and volunteer status within the organisation could create uncertainty around roles, responsibilities, and the purpose of the volunteering programme itself.

That said, we are always delighted when volunteers choose to apply for paid opportunities with LHA. Once employed, you would simply transition from being a volunteer to becoming part of the staff team.
