How likely am I to be selected?

We always do our best to offer volunteering opportunities to as many suitable applicants as possible. However, selection will ultimately depend on the availability of roles across our hostels and the operational needs of each property at the time.

While we will always try to honour your preferred volunteering role, some opportunities become available more frequently than others. In particular, Housekeeping Support roles tend to be the most commonly available across our hostels. If you are not interested in housekeeping opportunities at all, or if you have a very specific role preference, we encourage you to let us know from the outset so that we can manage expectations and discuss the options available.

Selection is also influenced by factors such as your availability, whether your preferred start date aligns with available opportunities, and whether your schedule matches the duty block requirements of the role. As part of the process, you may also be invited to have an informal conversation with the hostel team. This gives both you and the property the opportunity to discuss your motivation for volunteering, expectations, availability, and whether the role is likely to be a good fit for everyone involved.

Flexibility can often increase the likelihood of being matched with a volunteering opportunity. Applicants who are open to different hostels, locations, start dates, or volunteering roles may find that opportunities become available more quickly.

If you are placed on our waiting list, we ask that you remain engaged with our communications and respond to correspondence where possible. This helps us keep your application active and ensures we can contact you promptly when a suitable opportunity arises.

Above all, we genuinely want applicants to become part of the LHA community. We will always do our best to support suitable applicants through the process and help match them with available opportunities wherever possible. While we cannot guarantee a placement, we are committed to treating every application fairly and doing everything we reasonably can to help volunteers join our team.
