I am a student with a 20-hour work limit. Does volunteering with LHA count towards those hours?
No. LHA offers strictly volunteering opportunities rather than employment, and volunteering with LHA does not form part of the 20-hour work limit typically associated with Student visa work permissions.
This is because LHA volunteers are not employees and do not receive wages. The volunteering programme is designed to support LHA's charitable mission through the voluntary contribution of time and skills rather than paid work.
Many of our volunteers are students who successfully balance their studies, volunteering commitments, and part-time employment alongside one another.
However, immigration rules can change and individual circumstances may differ. As LHA cannot provide immigration advice, we encourage all volunteers to review the latest UK Government guidance and ensure they understand any conditions attached to their visa or immigration status.
As always, volunteers must have the appropriate Right to Live in the UK throughout their volunteering placement.
